Maricopa Rosy Boa
Maricopa Rosy Boa – Desert Gold from Arizona’s Sonoran Edge
The Maricopa Rosy Boa originates from the Maricopa region of south-central Arizona, within the heart of the Sonoran Desert. This pure Lichanura trivirgata gracia population is easily recognized by its golden-yellow to sandy base coloration and jet-black striping, producing one of the highest-contrast and most visually striking desert forms in the species.
While Maricopa, Ajo, and Organ Pipe rosy boas are sometimes grouped together due to their similar bold appearance and shared Sonoran range, each represents a distinct population with its own subtle variations. Maricopa animals typically display brighter yellow tones and cleaner striping, whereas Ajo and Organ Pipe boas often show slightly darker hues and softer contrast. Together, these southern Arizona forms stand apart from other state localities, forming a recognizable “Sonoran look” defined by golden tones and sharp black banding.
Though they may resemble Cabo San Lucas Rosy Boas in color, the two are completely unrelated and originate from vastly different habitats—Maricopa being an inland desert population and Cabo San Lucas a coastal Baja form.
Maricopa Rosy Boas are calm, hardy, and thrive in captivity. Their clean contrast, rich desert tones, and true Sonoran lineage make them one of the most distinctive and collectible localities in the rosy boa community.
Locality: Maricopa, Arizona, USA
Genetics: Pure Locality (no morph influence; Sonoran Desert form)
Species: Lichanura trivirgata gracia (Arizona Rosy Boa)
Highlights: Golden-yellow base • Jet-black striping • Distinct Sonoran look shared with Ajo and Organ Pipe • Unrelated to Cabo San Lucas form • Calm and hardy temperament
